workshop

Kinect Basics

The groundbreaking technology of depth cameras, allows to record environments and human movement in 3 dimensions. This turns media performances and installations into interactive playgrounds and unfolds new creative and involving potential. This workshop will help you to set up the Kinect with vvvv and give you an understanding of its basic principles and constraints.

Who is the target audience of the workshop?
Artists, designers and creative coders who wants to get to know the Kinect2 device for sensing depth and tracking human motion.

What will attendees of the workshop learn?
We will look at different approaches of how to use the Kinect and learn ways of how to use the data that the Kinect v2 nodes provide.

The Kinect for Windows is a 3D motion sensing device which can be used for cool human-computer interactions.

Together we will setup the Kinect v2 with vvvv and look at four approaches of how to use the sensor for different solutions:

  • shadow interaction using the depth information
  • drawing a geometric avatar using the joint information
  • we will play around with a pointcloud visualisation
  • the possibilities of interacting with virtual objects that react to your body

After this workshop you will know everything you need to create your own awesome interactive installation!
