Jugend hackt Frankfurt Main
The first hackathon for young coders (12-18y) in Frankfurt (Main)
Jugend hackt aims at “improving the world with code” which makes it a perfect fit for this year’s edition of NODE under the headline of ‘Designing Hope’.
Jugend hackt Frankfurt am Main is organized by people from the NODE community and will take place as part of NODE17 during the weekend from June 30th to July 2nd at Studio Naxos, a great youth club and street art studio in the heart of Frankfurt.
Jugend hackt is a program designed to promote young coders. While competitions such as ‘Jugend musiziert’ and ‘Jugend forscht’ have been established in Germany for decades, there are very few opportunities for young talents in the area of software development. To fill this void, Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland e.V. and mediale pfade started to organize Jugend hackt in 2013. Since then it has become a successful and well-established hackathon for young coders from all over Germany. “To code a better world” – that is the slogan of Jugend hackt. Together with likeminded peers, its participants use Open Data to work on prototypes, digital tools, and concepts in order to contribute to their vision for a better society. Volunteer mentors with technical expertise guide them through this process. It is the goal of Jugend hackt to empower young coders in their technical skills, show them creative and political opportunities to apply these skills and thereby foster experiences of self-efficacy.
Jugend hackt Frankfurt am Main
This years motto of Jugend hackt ‘True or false?’ perfectly resonates with NODE17 and the Motto ‘Designing Hope’.
Information helps us to understand the world. They shape our perception, our attitudes. But more and more frequently the thoughts and actions of many people are based on false or questionable information. True or false? This is becoming increasingly difficult to assess. What information do we need to understand our present and shape our future? What role can code, technology and artificial intelligence play in this? And who are the people behind it, the thinkers, craftsmen and designers who dream up our future?
With Jugend hackt Frankfurt am Main we want to give young minds the opportunity to think about these questions with like-minded peers, develop great projects, meet exciting people and learn new things. Whether it is a software, app or hardware project, 3D printer, laser cutter or virtual reality – there are (almost) no limits for topics and technical realizations at Jugend hackt Frankfurt am Main.
You are between 12 and 18 years old, from the Rhine-Main area and you want to hack the NODE with us? – We look forward to meeting you!
